The Bilingual/Bicultural Education (BBE) program provides expertise for students to become leaders in a field of growing importance. BBE students develop a critical perspective that allows them to advocate for bilingual educators, administrators, children, and families both in and outside the K-12 education system.
Bilingual/Bicultural Studies focus on the intersection between the politics of language and culture and the new global realities of the 21st century. The objective of the CB/BS is to examine the history as well as the current ramifications of translingual, transnational, and transcultural phenomena.

Prerequisites: Admission to a Bilingual Generalist Teacher Certification Program; BBL 3053, LTED 3823, and successful completion of the ALPS (Assessment of Language Proficiency in Spanish) sequence. The Graduate Program for Cultural Studies at the University of Pittsburgh is the most extensive interdisciplinary certificate program in the United States.
